"Going green" doesn't just apply to recycling or conserving energy. More and more people are buying green products.
With Earth Day just around the corner, Trendy Tuesday is going green with a look at organic cosmetics.
Cosmetics are supposed to make us look better and younger, but could some of the chemicals in them be doing just the opposite?
Judy Tuma, owner of a skin wellness salon in Solon says, "There are ingredients that be very clogging to the pores, that can cause skin irritations, skin sensitivity."
She says many clients don't even realize the damage they are doing.
"A lot of them when they come in have a little congestion on their skin and think it's because of acne, but mostly it's because of the products they are using. They're over using products and a lot them they are using too aggressively.
Tuma says she switches her clients over to organic products instead.
"They have anti-oxidants in them, green tea, grapeseed oil. So depending on the line, they are very healing for the skin."
Tuma says organic products don't have to be expensive.
For example, she recommends a pomegranate eye serum from the Mustard Seed that retails for $11.24 because its anti-oxidants, Tuma says fight free radicals from the outside in.
Other items on her list a Vitamin C serum, another anti-oxidant.
Tuma recommends using it after cleansing and toning but before applying a moisturizer.
Tuma says customers should read the ingredient list before buying a product. She says stay away from products containing petroleum, mineral oil and anything made with dyes or perfumes.
If you don't want to go completely green in your makeup kit, Tuma says try for at least for two products.
"I think a good cleaner and a good moisturizer would be very important organically or all natural," Tuma said.
